Carcassonne

The guys at Table Top have been playing 'Carcassonne' which is an excellent game! If you have never played it then have a look at this video and next time your at one of our events ask for a demo game! In fact even if you know how to play the video is well worth watching ...

Carcassonne is a tile-placement game in which the players draw and place a tile with a piece of southern French landscape on it. The tile might feature a city, a road, a cloister, grassland or some combination thereof, and it must be placed adjacent to tiles that have already been played, in such a way that cities are connected to cities, roads to roads, etcetera. Having placed a tile, the player can then decide to place one of his counters on one of the areas on it: on the city as a knight, on the road as a robber, on a cloister as a monk, or on the grass as a farmer. When that area is complete, that counter scores points for its owner.

During a game of Carcassonne, players are faced with decisions like: "Is it really worth putting my last counter there?" or "Should I use this tile to expand my city, or should I place it near my opponent instead, giving him a hard time to complete his project and score points?" Since players place only one tile and have the option to place one counter on it, turns proceed quickly even if it is a game full of options and possibilities.

And Last Years Champion is ....

This is the third year that this event has been held and the big question was who would join David Saunders (2011) and Simon Wright (2012) and become the MTG Grand Master for 2013?

A big thank you to the players that made if to the end of year Grand Tournament. 12 of the 16 players were able to attend and played in a multi format event covering the three most popular formats of the year which were STANDARD, MODERN and DRAFT.

After 6 rounds the eventual scores were...

Simon nearly managed to retain his title but even though he was unbeaten his two draws put him 2 points behind Sam Chapman who won the title with an impressive 16 points!

Well done to Sam and Michael Pike - this years top ranked player on their performances in 2013, lets see what happens in 2014! The points from the end of year event and Decembers events will start us off and will be on the website from the end of this week!

Bowling for Zombies

New in today is ...

Once again it's time for the NBC — the National Bowling Competition — held annually in the DMZ (Domain of Many Zombies) to determine which Necromancer is to be crowned this year's 9-Pin Bowling Champion.
In Bowling for Zombies!!!, each player takes on the role of a powerful Necromancer in charge of a horde of zombies. Instead of the usual "who kills the most humans" competition, which over the years has become tedious, this year's event concentrates on getting the best bowling scores.
Sounds silly, but fun and at only £12.00 its definately worth a try!

The New Lord of War is....

So I am pretty sure you all know by now that I love Lords of War, this devilishly simplistic little game is great fun and much more of a tactical challenge than it first looks, but (and there had to be a but!) it can be really stressful!!!

Last night was the Lords of War 'Faction' Tournament and finishes a year of seeing both the game and players tactics develop! It was a really fun event but talk about tense! The good news for me was that I got to play and test out the new "beserker rules". This really changes the game and can result in some great 'two for one' attacks but can also go horribly wrong if not played carefully!

As you can see from the map the was no clear winner as far as any particular faction was concerned, but it is safe to say that the Dwarves had a bit of a hard time of it!

In regards to the event winner, well dispite still not beating my Lords of War nemesis - 'Olly' I actually managed to win an event at last!!!!! From my point of view the Elves were pretty awesome! The general was pretty solid all event and the puresouls can be very aggressive and certainly help maintain a positive board state, for me they are so much better with the new rule!

However there were two units that really helped to secure the win and they were ....
So as 2013 draws to an end our Lords of War are ...

Mercenary Recruit Class - Olly James
Mercenary Soldier Class - Michael Pike
Factions Soldier Class - Gary Cambell-Smith

I will be sending the information to Martin and Nick at Black Box along with everyones points for the year!

Thanks to all the players for supporting this great game and I look forward to trying to defend my title next year!

KD Magic Night

This week the we will be at the Scout Hut in Vale Park, and it will be the last event before Christmas! Originally I had thought about doing a two head giant event but as I am unsure of what the numbers will be like I have decided to leave that until next year! Instead we will be doing a STANDARD event as this tends to be the most popular format and it would be nice to get as many players as possible.

We will be starting at 6pm and the entrance fee will be £3 as normal.

So far the attendance has been good since leaving the shop and I would like to thank you all for your support - lets try and hit the 20+ mark before the year ends!

As it is nearly Christmas what about a last minute special offer - Our last remaining Holiday Gift Boxes will be reduced from £16.99 to just £14.45 thats 15% off! This price will only last until Monday or when stocks run out! If you want one for Friday please let me know ASAP!

Also a reminder that there will be no KD Games Night next week as it will be Christmas Eve!
