Another Day in Paradice

On Sunday last week it was another day in Paradice, which was the fourth year for Worthing's Board Game Convention and a first for us. It was a great weekend and we will definitely be returning next year. The Sunday was a slightly quieter than the Saturday which presented us with a chance to have a chat with some of the independent games companies that were at the event.

There were some really great small games and although we will be ordering from some new suppliers in the coming weeks, we were luck enough to be able to pick up 5 new titles on the day.

These great games are all now available from KD Games and are all priced at £25 or less (except for the deluxe version of one of them)

First up we have Divide and Conker,

Ready your conkers for a great battle. Divide & Conker is a 2 to 4 player game. Set up varies dependent on player count. Game play usually lasts 30 minutes and is suitable from age 8 upwards.

Gameplay takes place over 2 rounds with a total of 7 battles. At the end of 7 battles, each player counts their victory points from cards in play. The player with the most victory points is the winner.

Within a round there are 3 phases; draft, prepare army, battle. In phase 1, players take it in turns drafting cards either from a pyramid or snake draft. Once all cards have drafted move to phase 2. Players can now prepare their army by laying down their collected conkers, applying hardener cards and attaching strings. Once each players army is prepared, play then continues to phase 3. During phase 3 players battle each other by declaring attacking and defending conkers. Player roll the dice and play trick cards during a battle until one conker is defeated. The second battle within round 1 can then commence.

When round 1 is over, move to round 2 where these 3 phases are played out but with a total of 5 battles in the final phase instead of 2. If no more battles can be played, the game ends and victory points are counted.

Next, we have Sakana Stack,

Sakana Stack is a climbing/shedding card game in which players play stacks of seafood from their hand with the aim of having the most valuable stack in play.

Stacks can be played of matching numbers, but they must match the last played card by suit or number. Players score the top card from their stack if the next player passes, so the bigger the stack, the higher the scoring opportunity. Play continues until a player sheds all cards in their hand, or the draw pile runs out twice and all cards scored are counted and recorded. Play a number of rounds equal to the number of players to determine the most successful market vendor.

Then there is Steery,

STEERY is the party game of stories that will never be told again.

Drop ludicrous plot twists, spark seemingly impossible conflicts, and hijack the narrative with your cards to score points. No tale is too weird, and no ending too unhinged.

In STEERY, you score points by steering the story of one or more characters, using the story cards that you have in hand. To amplify the element of surprise, the game also includes special cards hidden in the main deck to prompt you to introduce new characters into the story or to straight out end it when you least expect it.

Learn it in 5 minutes. Bond with your people over unpredictable stories. Unleash your creativity and wit.

STEERY contains character cards and story cards (with point values). The first player starts the story by revealing a character card, introducing the character in the story, and playing story cards from their hand to get the ball rolling. From then on, players take turns in moving that same story forward by playing their story card(s), incorporating the concept of the card(s) they're playing in the story, and scoring points along the way. The game ends when "The End" card is drawn and announced.

STEERY is balanced between strategic and casual gameplay and the sweet spot between collaboration and competition. The game has also been designed to be family friendly, but it can easily take a NSFW turn if players wish to go that way.

Bad Trevor is the penultimate game (and the one I saw people loving demonstrations of all weekend as I was opposite it)

A competitive card game set in a world of crazy superheroes and dastardly supervillains. At the start of each game, all 52 cards are shuffled and dealt out evenly between the players - these will be a mixture of 'Hero' 'Villain' and 'Civilian' cards. There are also two wild cards - Bad Trevor (the ultimate villain) and his arch nemesis Kamikaze Kevin.

Whoever is dealt Kamikaze Kevin places him face-up in the middle of the table - play starts with this person in a clockwise direction. The aim of the game is to get rid of all the cards in your hand before your opponents do. On their go, a player lays down an 'attack hand' against the next opponent. This is three cards chosen from their hand that are laid face down in front of them. The opponent must then draw one at random.

If a player draws a Villain card, this will screw them over in some way. If they draw a Hero card this will help them. In both instances, they must read the card out loud, place it on the discard pile and then carry out that instruction. If a player draws a civilian card, this can be discarded providing they have a matching civilian card in their hand. If they do have a pair, both can be placed on the discard pile. The player can then chose to carry on as normal by playing an attack hand against the next opponent in line. They can chose to reverse the order of play. Or they can demand a certain civilian from another player by pointing at them and asking for it by name. However, if they ask someone who doesn't have that card, their go is over and play moves to the next person.

If a player draws Bad Trevor from an opponent's attack hand, they must also pick up all the remaining cards from their attack hand as well - adding them to their own. Bad Trevor is the only card in the deck that can never be discarded, so as play continues and more and more cards are placed on the discard pile, the last person left holding Bad Trevor is crowned the loser of the game.

At any point in the game, is someone suspects that a certain card in a player's attack hand is Bad Trevor they can pick up Kamikaze Kevin, slam him on top of that card and say "Take That Bad Trevor!" If that person turns out to be correct, they can immediately leave the game and hand all their remaining cards to their opponent. However, if they guessed incorrectly, their opponent can leave the game instead and hand all their cards to their accuser. Kamikaze Kevin can only be used once in the entire game, after which he must be placed on the discard pile.

Finally we have Muster,

Step into the enchanting world of Muster, where players Raise the Banners and seize control of five majestic castles. Strategic planning and bold tactics will determine who emerges victorious in this fast-paced, two-player duel! Assemble a fearsome force drawn from five unique factions, represented by loyal soldiers, agile archers, valiant knights, fierce beasts, and legendary leaders. Unleash the magical power of Rainbow Cards to tip the scales - but beware! Rainbow Wizards are fickle friends whose loyalties can falter when you need them most

We will have demo copies of all of these games in our games library for you to borrow or play in store as well as have them available to buy.

I will post up more details for the other games that we have coming once they arrive, so watch this space.

In Muster, you play cards from your hand to build up strength on your side of the board, while wisely using powerful Rainbow cards in order to hamper your opponent.

The game immediately ends when the final card has been drawn from the deck. Players then establish who controls each castle by determining who has the most strength icons on the cards on their side of the board under each castle space. The player who controls the most castles wins the game!

TNT Kill Team League

Our Tuesday Night Tabletop event will be changing from Halo Flashpoint to Kill Team on Tuesday 3rd March. This will mean that next week is a practice week for players to get up to speed on the game and the new Crit/Tac Ops cards. We will be using the 2025 cards (these can be downloaded and printed from our discord channel)

Once we start, there will be eight weeks of games with players earning points for each game that they play. We will be preparing the board before the games (where possible) and trying to match up the players to ensure that games are played in different locations with different Crit ops as much as possible. We will have the following Kill Zones, Moroch, Chalnath, Octarius, Shadowvaults, Hive Storm and Tomb World.

Depending on the amount of players, it may not be possible for everyone to play everyone else, but we will try to pair the highest placed players against each other. Players should not play anyone more than once or twice (if numbers are low).Players do not have to take part each week but the more weeks people play the better chance they will get to win the overall league event.

When a player joins the league they will be given some objective markers and range guide. (Additional objective markers will be handed out at the end of the eight weeks). There will be a maximum of 16 players for this event.

In addition, each week there will be 4 post cards available (from a set of 8). These will be issued to the winner of each game during that week, with additional ones being issued randomly if there are less than 4 winners that week. If there are more than 4 winners each week then the Victory Points will determine who gets the post cards.

At the end of the league as well as receiving a certificate the winning player will receive this special medal. Players are welcome to change there teams during the event as they wish (it is the player rather than the team that get the points for each game) this is to prevent any player falling to far behind because they have chosen the wrong Kill Team and allow players to experience different play styles if they wish.

What is Pack Rush?

Pack Rush is a casual, fast-paced Disney Lorcana format where each player opens two booster packs (24 cards total) to create a deck, with games played to 15 lore instead of 20. Key rules include ignoring color identity, allowing any card to be used as ink, starting with two cards in the inkwell, and, if the deck runs out, shuffling the discard pile to form a new deck.

Core Rules for Pack Rush
  • Deck Building: Open two booster packs and use all 24 cards to form your deck.
  • Starting Ink: The two puzzle/token cards from the packs are placed into the inkwell to start with 2 ink.
  • Ink Rules: Any card can be played into the inkwell, regardless of whether it is normally "inkable".
  • Starting Hand: Draw 5 cards (instead of 7).
  • Winning Condition: The first player to reach 15 lore wins.
  • Deck Depletion: If your deck runs out, shuffle your discard pile to create a new deck.
Gameplay Tips
  • Setup: Open packs without looking to keep it a surprise.
  • Strategy: Because you cannot control your deck's composition, prioritize using characters and keeping your hand filled.
  • Duration: Games are designed to be quick, often lasting only 5–10 minutes, making it ideal for tournament side events or casual play.

Young Guns - Returning March 2026

We haven't organised a junior 40k club for younger players since we moved locations. This is something that we have been keen to remedy for some time. Having organised a learn to play day last year and seeing an increase in the amount of young players buying GW stuff and booking our tables we are pleased to announce the return of your Young Guns Club.

This will be for players under the age of 16 and designed to allow younger players to both learn how to play, improve their understanding of the rules, find other people to play against and most importantly have fun.

Our first event will be on Sunday 8th March from 10am through to midday and the hope is to run these events once a month. The initial event will only be open to a very limited amount of players so booking will be important. (Following that we will decide what a good number of players would be.)

This new club will be primarily run by Jake and the guy who organised last years tournament who is incidentally also Jake. There are a few of the older experience players that have agreed to help from time to time and if your interested in doing the same please let us know.

So if your a young player and this sounds like something you would want to do then please sign up for the first event soon. This can be done in the shop in person or on our website.

What are Beyblades?

When did Beyblades come out?

Although currently trending, Beyblades isn’t a new game at all. Beyblades were first launched in Japan in 1999 by Tomy, with the first series launched to sell more blades.

Beyblade components

Hasbro Beyblade burst models have three different components.

Beyblade energy layer

This piece will first contact your opponent when the two Beyblades collide.

Forge disc

This ring affects the weight of the Beyblade itself. It comes in different shapes and weights, which affect performance in various ways.

Performance tip

This part of the Beyblade will come into contact with the beystadium. Its width will play a significant role in the speed and stamina of the body itself.

All these components can be switched around, and different shapes and sizes can be used for various purposes and benefits, depending on the match.

What are the different types of Beyblades?

There are different types of Beyblades, and each has distinct strengths. These strengths include attack, stamina, defence, and balance.

The attack Beyblades

The attack Beyblade has a flat tip, allowing for a more significant contact zone on the beystadium. They are quicker and more mobile than any of the other tips. This speed on the beystadium provides a more significant impact when a collision occurs with the opponent.

The one drawback of this Beyblade is that it reduces speed faster because the weight of its forge disc is not spread regularly, which can lead to uncontrolled aggressive moments.

The energy layer of this Beyblade plays a significant role because it is serrated, making it easier to grip the opponent. This can result in a burst finish.

The defense Beyblades

These Beyblades have the benefit of reducing the impact of opponents as they are the heaviest.

Their energy level is smooth and round, making the opponent's grip harder. Their tip is round or can come with a ball-bearing system that allows for high stability.

The stamina Beyblades

A thin tip limits the friction between the blade and the stadium, helping it maintain a higher rotation speed for extended periods.

Their forge disc weight is also evenly spread to ensure high stability.

The balance Beyblades

These Beyblades combine elements from all three other types of Beyblades, making them the most versatile.

This allows you to mix the tip of the stamina type with the defense forge disc, which would be placed alongside a serrated layer.

With over 5000 combinations of Beyblade, each one is unique. Even single component changes can make a huge difference in different battles, making no one game the same. 2, 3 or 4 blades can also be played simultaneously, so the options are limitless.

Beyblade battling equipment

You will need at least two battling Beyblades, a stadium, and two launchers to battle.

Beystadium

This is where the battling happens! It ensures that the fight is contained, with Beyblades able to collide.

There are multiple Beystadium shapes, with each one allowing for different outcomes.

For example, some have pits in the corners where the blades could get bumped into, another victory condition that attack beys would look for (alongside bursting their opponent).

Another example includes the slightly bumpy middle circle to force beys to move in specific ways - making it so even stamina or defense types interact with their opponents.

Beylaunchers

Although you can launch Beyblades with your hand, Beylaunchers allow you to do powerful launches and tricks.

Different launchers can be attached to play different Beyblades against one another or see how they work together before playing against opponents.

Beyblade battling

Getting ready for a Beyblade battle

Once reading the safety rules, you and your opponent will be ready to start battling.

To begin with, you will need to assemble your Beyblade, which has three components fitted together.

Then, the ripcord will be placed into the launcher, and the blade will be put into the launcher. The blade should be softly locked so it does not fall off when released.

Start by holding your launcher atop the stadium, with your bey directly above it. Pull the ripcord once both opponents are ready and watch your bey battle until victory rises. As you launch, tradition also invites the words “let it rip!”.

Beyblade winning conditions

A match is played until one player has a total of three points. The points are determined based on the information below.

Ring-out finish: You will score one point if one of your opponent's Beyblades is knocked out of the ring or in the Beystadium pits.

Survivor Finish: You also score one point if your opponent's Beyblade stops spinning and if yours carries on spinning.

Bursty finish: During a collision, you score two points if your opponent's blade bursts.
Beyblade battle tips

Tips and tricks for those getting started.

Mix up and customise your Beyblades to surprise your opponents and adapt to their type of blades.

Increase and boost your knowledge of the different types of beys to identify them and switch your components to fight them. The same applies to the various types of stadiums.

Practice your launches before a battle. The stronger your launch is, the faster and longer the blade will spin.

Good launchers can make significant differences in battles. With some, you can pull either left or right, changing how a Beyblade behaves. They can also help you choose where you want to aim.

Changing strategies

Like other sports, you don’t want your opponent to know your next move. This is why it's essential to switch up your Beyblades and launchers regularly. Your opponent will learn to adapt if you stick with the same strategy.

Beyblade launcher styles

Different launching styles allow you to achieve different things.

Parallel Beyblade launch

You may launch your Beyblade parallel to the floor when first using Beyblades.

With this technique, a high-speed tip blade will circle quickly on the outside of the beystadium. If your opponent plays as a defense type in the middle of the stadium, you will lose momentum much faster, leading to no impact when you collide with your opponent.

Banking Beyblade launch

If you choose this launch style, your launcher will parallel the Beystadium’s angle.
Sliding Beyblade launch

This move is trickier than previous launchers, as you have to push your launcher forward as you launch. Using this method, your blade will gain high power and momentum as it spins in a flower pattern. Attack-type blades mostly use this move, as this launch style will cause you to collide more often with opponent blades.

Weak shooting Beyblade launch

It's similar to a parallel launch but done a lot slower. This will result in your Beyblade moving slowly but erratically to avoid attack-type opponents.

That about covers it, but as with many things the best way to discover what Beyblades are and how to use them, pop into the shop and give it a go.

Halo Flashpoint League - Week 4 Update

Our Halo Flashpoint League is now drawing to a close and week four saw all 6 players attempt to 'Capture the Flag'

In this weeks scenario the teams had to capture the enemy flag and take it back to their spawn point. If you did this 3 times before your opponent then you would win.

The match ups this week were Jake v Vince, Jake (Binky) v Kevin and Gary v Jake (RTC). In Binky's game he pretty much nominated the game and Kevin was unable to get the flag from the brutes. This game saw Binky's best win  yet scoring 18-0. My game against Jake (RTC) was much closer although the final couple of turns really went against me and allowed Jake to score twice in quick succession making the final score 18-6. Jake and Vince's game was the closest of the three and Jake eventually won 18-12. Making it a clean sweep for the Jake's this week. With one week to go can anyone catch up with Jake?

After round 4 the standings looked like this ...

For the final week of our league the mission will be one of the newest scenarios 'Total Control' ...

As this is a league event the instead of scoring one for controlling a zone the player will score 6 and the amount required to win will be 18.

Here are a few picture from last weeks games...

Lorwyn Eclipsed Commander Party

This week at MTG Commander Night, it is the commander party event for Lorwyn Eclipsed. As usual it is a special event that adds a few extra rules to the game of commander and helps create the atmosphere of the current MTG set.

WHAT IS THE LORWYN ECLIPSED COMMANDER PARTY?

SETUP: Place the rules sheet in the center of the play area. Use the Lorwyn side of the Lorwyn-Shadowmoor indicator card to cover the Shadowmoor roll table. Each player draws and mulligans their opening hand as normal, then does so again, setting aside the second “hand” of cards on the corner of this rules sheet nearest them. Grab a six-sided die.

GAMEPLAY: Players start the game on Lorwyn. After the first player’s third turn begins, the following rules apply. At the beginning of combat on your turn, roll a six-sided die and get the bonus listed below for the plane you are currently on.

IF ON LORWYN

1 — Create a 1/1 colorless Shapeshifter creature token with changeling.

2 — You gain 3 life.

3 — Put two +1/+1 counters on up to one target creature.

4 — You draw a card.

5 — At end of combat, untap all creatures you control. Spells you cast this turn have convoke. (Your creatures can help cast those spells. Each creature you tap while casting a spell this turn pays for 1o or one mana of that creature’s color.)

6 — You get your choice of any other Lorwyn effect. When it leaves the stack, all players travel to Shadowmoor.

IF ON SHADOWMOOR

1 — Create a 1/1 colorless Shapeshifter creature token with changeling.

2 — Each opponent loses 3 life.

3 — Put a -1/-1 counter on up to one target creature.

4 — Each opponent discards a card unless they blight 2. (To blight 2, a player puts two -1/-1 counters on a creature they control.)

5 — Until your next turn, creatures you control gain “When this creature dies, return it to the battlefield under its owner’s control with a -1/-1 counter on it.”

6 — You get your choice of any other Shadowmoor effect. When it leaves the stack, all players travel to Lorwyn.

To travel to Shadowmoor, flip the indicator card to its Shadowmoor side and use it to cover the Lorwyn roll table. When the players travel to Lorwyn or Shadowmoor, each player swaps the cards in their hand with their cards on this rules sheet. Players may look at their cards on this rules sheet, but those cards cannot be discarded, exiled, or otherwise interacted with in any way other than being swapped out by this travel ability. If a player’s commander is in their hand while they travel between Lorwyn and Shadowmoor, they may reveal it and keep it in their hand rather than setting it aside.

Every player that takes part in the Lorwyn Eclipsed commander party will not only get an enjoyable game but also a special participation promo card...

TNT - Tuesday Night Tabletop Calendar

We are now three weeks into our first TNT event of 2026, so I thought since many of you were asking what is next, it was time to post up the full calendar or TNT League, along with a couple of additional tabletop events planned for this year.

First up though here is the proposed calendar for 2026, obviously this is not set in stone and may change if certain things prove less popular than others or any events overrun.

JAN 6th - FEB 8th HALO FLASHPOINT LEAGUE
FEB 24th - SPARE WEEK
MAR 3rd - APR 21st KILL TEAM LEAGUE
APR 28th - SPARE WEEK
MAY 5th - JUN 2nd - OPR FANTASY QUEST
JUN 9th - SPARE WEEK
JUN 16th - JULY 27th - DREADBALL LEAGUE
AUG 4th - SPARE WEEK
AUG 11th - OCT 13th - BLOOD BOWL 7s LEAGUE
OCT 20th - SPARE WEEK
OCT 27th - DEC 15th - GASLANDS LEAGUE
DEC 22nd - SPARE WEEK
DEC 29th - SPARE WEEK

Details of these events will be posted closer to their start times.

In addition to the regular Tuesday Night events we will be some other tabletop events not restricted to the Tuesday Nights.

First up there will be a Dungeon Bowl event which will be on a Sunday (Date TBC). This is a great game and to give the event an even more tension will be done using Chess Timers.

Then following on the Bloodbowl theme, we will be introducing our Sunday Afternoon Bloodbowl. This will be full elevens teams with advancement and last for 10 months. Each month teams must play a single match against another team on the league. Although we anticipate that games will generally be played on Sundays, other times can be arranged. The league will be designed to flexible and only require players to arrange and play 10 matches over the course of a year. We aim to start this in March and announce the winner in December.

Moving on to 40k we are planning two tournaments this year, one a traditionally tournament structure the other a more narrative event. Both of these will be in the later part of 2026.

Other game systems have been discussed in the community such as Spearhead and we are currently looking a day tournaments for these which would most likely happen in Sundays.
