Young Guns back in April

Following the success of our March Young Guns Club, we are pleased to announce that we will be running a session in April. The format will be much the same as the first one and is open to any young people that is interested in playing/learning 40k.

There will be several older players from our community there to help with rules, tactics, painting in fact anything that you might need help with in the 40k universe.

Entry to this event costs just £2 and is currently capped at 12 players. The session will be on Sunday 26th April from 10am through til 12pm. Tickets can be purchased in store or on our website

Here are a few pictures from the March session...

You don't even need your own army. We have several that you can borrow for the session.

Young Guns - Returning March 2026

We haven't organised a junior 40k club for younger players since we moved locations. This is something that we have been keen to remedy for some time. Having organised a learn to play day last year and seeing an increase in the amount of young players buying GW stuff and booking our tables we are pleased to announce the return of your Young Guns Club.

This will be for players under the age of 16 and designed to allow younger players to both learn how to play, improve their understanding of the rules, find other people to play against and most importantly have fun.

Our first event will be on Sunday 8th March from 10am through to midday and the hope is to run these events once a month. The initial event will only be open to a very limited amount of players so booking will be important. (Following that we will decide what a good number of players would be.)

This new club will be primarily run by Jake and the guy who organised last years tournament who is incidentally also Jake. There are a few of the older experience players that have agreed to help from time to time and if your interested in doing the same please let us know.

So if your a young player and this sounds like something you would want to do then please sign up for the first event soon. This can be done in the shop in person or on our website.

The 'Young Guns' are back!

For the first time in over 10 years we will be running a club for younger Games Workshop players. Our 'Young Guns' club will be making a return this Friday...

Aimed at players between the ages of 10 and 16, the club will be on every week and lasts for 2 hours. The entry cost will be £2 and can be booked through our website. Initially we will be playing Kill Team as this does not require many models and can be played in just 90 minutes. Over time we will increase the club to include longer sessions on Sundays which will allow bigger games of 40k and eventually Age of Sigmar.

We have several teams ready for players to use and there is no need to be familiar with the rules as we will be able to teach these to the young players that attend.

If you would like to know more than please pop in, or message us directly.

Lords of War Draft Tournaments

Today as part of Young Guns we will be holding a Lords of War Tournament. This will be our very first event of the year and will see us issuing our very first command star. This time we are going to do something a little different and we will be running a draft. I have six decks ready to go and as I will be taking the cards back at the end of the event there is no additional cost for this tournament. I will need a minimum of 4 players and a maximum of 6 for this event.

The Setup
Give each club member a full Faction deck at random and have them open it.
Using the Rank symbols on each card (as found in the Lords of War Rules) have players sort their deck into 6 decks by Rank but have them hold onto their General.
Next, take all the cards of each particular Rank belonging to ALL players and sort them into 6 decks containing all cards of a giving rank.
This should lead to 1 deck of assorted Command Cards, 1 deck of assorted Special Units, 1 deck of assorted Elite Units, 1 deck of assorted Veterans and so on.
Next, shuffle the Command Card deck and deal these cards out to each player.
Players should then all look at their hands (in which there should be 5 Command Cards plus their General) and pick ONE Command Card to keep.
Once they have chosen the card they want, they then pass the rest of their hand to the player on the left and take the hand of the player to their right.
Continue this process until all players have 5 Command Cards, then do the same with the Special Units deck, Elite Units deck and so on until each player has a full deck of 36 cards.
Next, simply play a standard Lords of War Tournament.
At the end of the Tourney we will have a winner and the very first Lords of War Commander of 2015!

Young Guns Commander League

During December at the Young Guns club we will be holding a Commander League...

This will be 5 weeks in total.

This is a simplified version of the rules set used at Shrunken Terra in Burgess Hill and I would like to thank them for devising the system in the first place.

The League is multi-player, with games of 3/4 players rather than 1 -Vs- 1 -- each Tuesday there will be time for 1 or 2 games, each running for a maximum of 1 1/2 hours.

To encourage social play we are utilising the Shrunken Terra "+/-" points system to determine the winner of each game as well as the League overall, by means of a Living Ladder - as you'll see it is possible to have a winner without a single player being eliminated (unlikely as that eventuality may be).

**League Points System:**

(M) = You can get it multiple times

(P) = Each player can get it once

(I) = Only the first player to achieve it gets it

1) I'm Too Young To Die! = - 4 Points (M): Eliminate a player prior to their 5th turn.

2) Colour Blindness = -3 Points (M): Be the cause of a player being unable to cast spells of any given colour.

3) ZZzzzzzzz = -1 Point (M): Take a turn of 6 minutes or more - this includes any extra turns you may get

4) Too Many Options = -1 Point (P): Have Sol Ring or Mana Crypt in play on Turn 1.

5) Help a Brother Out = +1 Point (P): Assist another player in some way.

6) Mark of the Beast = +1 Point (P): Control exactly 6 lands, 6 creatures, and 6 non-land, non-creature permanents.

7) Watch Out, We got a killer = +1 Point (P): Eliminate 3+ Planeswalkers during the game. - Combat damage and exile counts for this one.

8) Serial Killer = +1 Point (P): Remove 8+ creatures from play at one time.

9) Creatures of the Night = +1 Point (P): Control 6+ non-token creatures with the same creature type.

10) I Brought Extras = +1 Point (P): Control 12+ creature tokens at one time.

11) Die Already! = +1 Point (P): Survive being attacked for lethal damage 3+ times.

12) Prepared for the End = +1 Point (P): Control 3+ Equipment at one time.

13) Your Time has Come = +1 Point (M): Eliminate a player or be directly responsible for a player's elimination.

14) You're Not an Extra = +1 Point (P): Prevent another player from being eliminated from the game.

15) Final Credits = +1 Point (P): Finish the game without being eliminated.

16) Next in Line = +1 Point (M): Have the lowest life total, which must be lower than 10, when another player is eliminated without the game ending.

17) I've Seen This Movie = +1 Point (P): Be the first person eliminated from the game.

18) There can be only None = +4 Point (I): Eliminate every player, including yourself, within a single turn!

19) I'll let these guys do the talking = -1 Point (P): Play no spells in a turn but use three Planeswalker abilities

20) Well he's brave.... = +1 Point (P): Play a 5 colour or mono-colour deck

21) Please don't counter this = +1 Point (P): Tap over 10 lands to play a spell

22) What did you do! = +1 Point (P): Be attacked by each other player in one round of turns.

23) Who is in charge here? = +1 Point (M): Put an opponents commander into their library.

24) You had me worried for a bit = +1 Point (M): Tutor to find your commander in your library.

25) The original is always the best = +2 Point (P): Win with a pre-constructed deck

26) Next time he's in charge! = +2 Point (M): Deal 21 damage to a single player with a single creature other then your commander

27) I hate each of you equally = +1 Point (M): Swing with three creatures, each targeting a different player.

28) Well he lasted long = +1 Point (P): Kill a Planeswalker the turn it was brought out

29) Fair weather friend = +1 Point (P): Take control of an opponents planeswalker.

30) How the Mighty have Fallen = +2 Point (P): Kill the same Commander in the same game 5 times

Tonight at Young Guns

This week other than the usual casual MTG and Pokemon we will be holding a small Heroclix Event.

Jake has been keen for a while to run a sealed event but these can be costly depending on the format, so we are going to try in with two single figure boosters and see if that works.

Each player will get two packs which they will open, they can they use them to play the other players in a series of games to find the overall winner who will get a special Batman figure.

Once all figures are open a maximum points value will be agreed and then we will note down each players total point value. Games will be played to a time limit and at the end of the this time points will be awarded for each model that has been knocked out. The player with the highest points at the end wins.

We are looking for at least 4 players but no more than 6 for this event and because it is a trial event it will be free and each player will get to keep the figures that they open.

Lords of War Junior Faction Tournament

On Tuesday as part of our weekly KD Games Night we held our first Lord of War Tournament just for the younger club members.

The event was a faction only constructed decks, but without Templars or Undead. We had six players and played three rounds.

It was pretty close but the final standings were as follows...

6th with 38 points Ed
5th with 42 points George
4th with 52 points Louis

then the top three with only 4 points between them...

3rd with 75 points Alex
2nd with 77 points Jake

and the winner with 79 points was Tobey

Tobey becomes only the third person to win one of the Lords of War Command Stars and is our Junior Champion. Tobey will get the tra points for winning the event and all point have been added to the Honour Roll for 2014, which can be found on the website...

The next event will be held in November which will be a mercenary constructed deck format, more details will be posted in the coming weeks.

There is also a Lords of War tournament at our next Gambit Club Day, so hopefully we will see some of these guys there to give some of the experienced players a "run for there money"

Junior Lords of War Tournament

We will be holding a Lords of War tournament for the under 16's this week as part of our Young Guns Club.

The Structure;
  • 3 Rounds
  • 40 min time limit on each round. Once reached players will have 5 turns to finish the game. If no victor is confirmed it will be a draw.
  • Each round best of 1 game
  • Each round computer generated
  • Computer will work out the victor at the end based on match wins and various percentages.

The Rules set we will be using;

  • Player 1 decided by D6 roll offs
  • We will be using the Lords of War play mat, so as to constrain size and length of games
  • Each game will be won by the first player to kill 20 of the opponents units/characters or the first player to kill 4 of the opponents command units (this includes the general)
  • Deck construction will be restricted too;
1 x General
5 x Other Command Units
4 x Special Units
4 x Elite Units
6 x Veteran Units
8 x Regular Units
8 x Recruit Units
(See the rules pack to find the unit types, or ask on Sunday morning)
  • Points will be award as follows;
1 for each unit killed
an additional 1 point it the unit is a commander (not general)
an additional 2 points if the unit is a general
an additional 5 points for winning the game
an additional 1 point if the game is drawn.
  • The winner will be the player with the highest score at the end of the event, not necessarily the most game wins.
Right, with all of that out of the way, kick off will be at 4pm, there is no addtitional charge for this event but there is a prize! The winner will receive a command star and a limited edition foil command card. It should be a lot of fun, hope to see you all there.

Junior Prerelease Event

On Sunday we tried a new prerelease format which was designed with the younger plays in mind. Instead of the usual high price 6 booster sealed event which costs £23 we held a much smaller 2 pack sealed event with the more accessible price of £6.

This went really well, each player got two brand new boosters and the chance to experience a sealed event. Well doe to Alex for winning who went away with a further two boosters and Tom who got one for coming second.

It was successful enough that we will be running this format for all future releases - so watch this space in January.

Young Guns MTG Tournament

This week at Young Guns which is held at the Royal George between 4pm and 7pm we will be running a small MTG event.

It will last for 3 rounds and each player must have a minimum 60 card deck. It does not matter which set the cards are from and it is open to any regular players in the club (under 16)

Each round players will be matched against there opponents by the computer and they will get 30 minutes to play the best of 3 games. At the end of the time there will be 5 extra turns in which to finish the game. If a game is unfinished then it is a drawn game the result of the match would depend on any other games played.

If we have an odd number of players then one player will get a bye of each round which will get them 3 points as if they had won a match.

Each player will earn 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw. At the end of the third round there should be a winner who will get a MTG booster and a promo card as a prize. The scores will be checked and rankings announced in between each round.

If you want to play in the event you need to be at the venue by 4:15pm to register. Each player will need a DCI number (if you don't have one we can create one for you).

Young Guns

When we had the shop we used to run a club known as 'Young Guns' this was for young players under the age of 16 that were interested in learning and playing table top games such as Warhammer 40K.

I am very pleased to announce the arrival of ...

This will be on Friday afternoons from 4pm until 7pm at the Royal George on the Holmbush Roundabout in the function room! The cost will be just £2 per player and will have two 4x4 gaming tables or one 8x4 available depending on numbers! We will be able to help with army construction and rules queries as well as offer the opportunity to play both casually and later in tournaments and leagues! (If numbers are good then the amount of tables on offer will be reviewed).

This club will start form Friday May 16th 2014. If you are interested in attending please let me know and I will add you to the facebook group!
