Lords of War - A change in the weather?

Over the last few weeks Will and myself have been looking at different ways of using the new weather expansion from Lords of War.

We have tried several different ideas with the aim of coming up with something for a campaign that we hope to run in the coming weeks. The one we like the best is what has become known as D6 weather!

How does D6 weather work?
At the beginning of the game the weather deck is shuffled and place next to the battle mat. The top card is then revealed and that is the weather at the start of the battle. The first two turns are played as normal and then at the beginning of the third turn and at every players turn following that the player has three choices which are:

1. Change the weather, the player discards the current weather card and draws the top 3 cards and chooses the one they wish to have in play and discards the other two! This is the end of there turn and they can do nothing else! Its costly but there are times in battle when it simply pays to wait for the right weather!

2. Roll to see if the weather changes. Roll a D6 on a result of a 5 the current weather card is discarded and the next one down in the deck is revealed. On the roll of a 6 the player discards the current weather and draws two cards from the top of the deck they may then choose which weather card will be in play and discards the other one. The players turn continues as normal with the new weather in effect!

3. Accept the weather as it is and play a turn as normal!

The games so far have been really interesting with weather conditions lasting for more turns than normal. It really changes the game and gives the players extra tactical decisions to make each turn. If you want to try out this fun variant then why not pop along to KD Games night tomorrow night! I am hoping to get a multi player game using this format of weather as from what Will has been saying it really is a great game!
