The Lost Caverns of Ixalan - First Look

This November, we will venture beneath Ixalan's surface and dig into a new journey alongside familiar characters and fan-favorite creatures. Today, we're taking our first look at card reveals and new treatments you can find in the set.

Core of Paradise Full-Art Lands

With eye-popping colors that take players across the sweeping expanse above and mysterious caverns below the surface of Ixalan, the Full-Art lands are gorgeous additions to your collections. They can be found in Draft, Set, or Collector Boosters.

Gods of Ixalan Showcase Cards

This showcase treatment highlights the might and beauty of Ixalan's gods—this time adjusted for the underground exploration theme of the set. Gods of Ixalan Showcase cards can be found in Draft, Set, or Collector Boosters.

Borderless Oltec Cards

Found in Draft, Set, and Collector Boosters, the Borderless Oltec treatment features Mesoamerican-inspired art further spotlights the world of Ixalan and the Aztec-inspired culture within it.

Cosmium Neon Ink

This special foil style highlights the art pieces in an eye-catching way, combined with a foil treatment that gives each piece an illustrious neon glow. Fans of Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty may remember the aesthetic appeal of this treatment from the Neon Ink foil version Hidetsugu, Devouring Chaos.

As a part of First Look, Wizards of the Coast showed off Cavern of Souls from The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, a card that will definitely create a buzz of excitement.

Dig Into Treasure Trove Box Toppers

Valuable treasures are hidden everywhere beneath the surface of Ixalan, and you can join the hunt for these Artifacts with all-new art for The Lost Caverns of Ixalan. They can be found as Box Toppers, or in Draft and Set Boosters as nonfoil versions, or in Collector Boosters as foil versions.

Meet Special Guests

Beginning with The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, Wizards of the Coast are introducing cards known as Special Guests into the fold. These masters-level reprints bring new artwork for the set, plus elements from across the Omenpaths, and for The Lost Caverns of Ixalan First Look, they recently took a peek at two: Mana Crypt and Lord of Atlantis.

Jurassic World™ Collection

Lastly, we were eager to give fans a peek at the next Universes Beyond partnership with Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment stomping into a Magic: The Gathering set—the Jurassic World collection will feature fan-favorite characters, locations, and dinosaurs (of course). Wizards of the Coast will share even more about this awesome partnership closer to launch, so keep your eyes open.

MTG Celebration

Over the last year, we've been celebrating Magic's 30th anniversary, sharing incredible promos with our players commemorating what makes The Gathering so special. Now that Magic's actual birthday is drawing near, Wizards of the Coasr want to give your players another way to celebrate Magic however it's being played.

Starting the weekend of September 22. We will be giving away copies of Lotus Petal

Getting one of the promo cards is easy: all of our players have to do is show up and play in one event at our store. 

Each player will get one Lotus Petal promo for each event they attend while supplies last. The first chance to get Lotus Petal will be at Friday Night Magic on 22nd September, then there will be a second chance at the Wilds of Eldraine League at the weekend, followed by our Commander Night on Thursday. 

If you bring a new player along to an event at our store! you will both get a Lotus Petal plus a bring a friend promo.

Tiny Leaders

Tiny Leaders is a Magic: The Gathering format. Although not officially santionable by Wizards of the coast it is popular with casual plaers. It is a singleton format that uses a Commander and restricts deckbuilding to cards of converted mana cost 3 or less. 

It was conceived in 2013 and has its own list of banned and restricted cards.

Rules

• All cards must have a converted mana cost of 3 or less.
• Each player chooses a legendary creature (or suitable Planeswalker) which is their commander. Decks may use other legendary creatures as well. Partner commanders are only legal if their combined color identities are less than four total colors.
• Decks must have a color identity that is a subset of the color identity of their general. The color identity of a card is composed of every colored mana symbol that appears on that card — whether in the mana cost or the rules text.
• Except for basic lands, players may not use more than one copy of any given card unless stated otherwise on the card itself.
• Each deck must contain exactly 50 cards including the General, and may additionally have a sideboard with a maximum of 10 cards
• Players start with 20 life.
• Each player's starting hand size (before mulligans) is 8 minus the number of cards in their command zone (meaning 7 cards for regular commander or 6 cards for Partner commanders).

Realms of Story

 

Our commander nights run every Thursday from 7pm through until 10pm. They are great fun, a great way to meet new people and great value (they are FREE to attend).

Next Thursday (14th) the evening will be even better, because you will get to be part of a great story too!!

There will be the opportunity to join in with the Wilds of Eldraine Commander Party.

Everyone that attends with get a special promo card which is Syr Konrad, the Grim. He would make an excellent commander with the following rules text ... 

"Legendary Creature — Human Knight. Whenever another creature dies, or a creature card is put into a graveyard from anywhere other than the battlefield, or a creature card leaves your graveyard, Syr Konrad, the Grim deals 1 damage to each opponent. : Each player mills a card."

Players will also have the opportunity to use the take part in the "The Realm of Story"
