Pokemon Rotation

2020 Season Pokémon TCG Format Rotation

At the beginning of every Championship Series season, Pokémon Organized Play removes older expansions from competition in the Standard format, with the goal of maintaining a healthy competitive environment. This rotation challenges existing players to create new strategies and enables new players to get involved in Play! Pokémon events using the most recent releases.

The 2020 season starts July 1, 2019, so players can get an early start on working toward the 2020 Pokémon World Championships. However, the rotation will not occur until August 15, 2019. Importantly, this means that the 2019 Pokémon World Championships, which take place August 16–18, will be the first major event to use the 2020 format and rules as currently listed. For other competitions taking place this summer, be sure to check the event's rules and regulations before attending.

The Standard format for the 2020 season will consist of the following expansions:

  • Sun & Moon Ultra Prism and any expansions released afterward
  • Black Star Promo cards numbered SM94 and up
  • Cards from the following products are also legal:
  • Dragon Majesty
  • Pokémon TCG: Detective Pikachu
  • Starting with the 2020 season, cards from McDonald's Collections will be legal in the Standard format if they're functionally identical to a card that is currently legal in the Standard format. For example, Magnemite (McDonald's Collection 2018, 8/12) is functionally the same card as Magnemite from Sun & Moon—Ultra Prism, so it can still be used in the Standard format.

New expansions become legal for tournament play on the third Friday of the month they are released.

Paupers Ladder

Paul Stapleton of Bedsit Games which is based in Brighton has written a new game which is due for release in September this year.

PAUPERS' LADDER: A game of exploration adventure and class struggle for 2-4 players.
There’s a tournament on and those high and mighty heroes aren’t allowed to enter. It’s up to you grave diggers, vermin catchers and scavengers to show them how it’s done.
With your bird companion in tow, craft recipes, complete quests, learn virtues and fight all manner of creatures. Win the right to rule Brighthelm and ensure your fellow paupers are never forgotten.

It looks like it will be another success for him and hopefully we will be stocking it. In preperation for the release here is a video showing a play through...

Coming Soon ...

Celebrate The Orville joining the HeroClix family for the first time ever with The Orville HeroClix: 2-Player Starter Set! This is the perfect way for new players who are fans of The Orville to get into HeroClix and for veteran players to expand their collection to a new, fan-favorite universe!

This starter sets features the 8 of the most prominent crew members from the Orville for you to mix and match your team to best suit your mission! With Captain Ed Mercer and Commander Kelly Grayson to lead your team, nothing can stand in your way. Second Officer Bortus nicely compliments them with his own form of dry, calculating leadership, and raw strength. Chief Medical Officer Claire Finn keeps everybody healthy and sane in times of duress. Chief of Security Alara Kitan packs a lot of power in a tiny package and does most of the heavy lifting (and punching) when needed. Isaac, the robotic Kaylon scientist, brings a hyper-intelligent, computational perspective to the crew no one else is remotely capable of. If you need a Helmsman, look no further than Lieutenant Gordon Malloy, the most skillful pilot in the entire Union. We cap off this eclectic crew with navigator turned chief engineer and genius, John LaMarr. With such a wide variety at your disposal, who will you put on your perfect The Orville team?

Along with these 8 awesome figures, this Starter Set includes everything players need to learn and start playing HeroClix today including the HeroClix Rulebook, a double-sided Map, a Powers and Abilities Card (PAC), Object Tokens, Terrain Tokens, Dice, and Character Cards.

Coming this September ...

Long ago, a vengeful god stole the stars from the night sky. To illuminate the night, hopeful people sent glowing paper lanterns floating toward the heavens. Out of nowhere, clever magical phoenixes appeared, soaring through the sky. As they flew from lantern to lantern, their enchanted touch changed the lanterns into new stars! The phoenix who can create a constellation of seven new stars will be the champion of a world looking for light!

Tsuro: Phoenix Rising is a new entry in the classic Tsuro series. The game shares a bond with the foundations of the venerable original: play tiles, move pawns, and stay in play, but it introduces a revolutionary board that allows for the double-sided tiles to flip and rotate throughout the game, creating diverging paths and opening up new strategies.

Featuring gorgeous phoenix miniatures, beautiful lantern tokens, and unique gameplay elements such as life tokens that allow your phoenix to be reborn from the ashes once per game, Tsuro: Phoenix Rising is a new chapter in the legacy of Tsuro!

Youtube Channels

Over the years that we have been running Pokemon League we have had so many young players start youtube channels, many only post a couple of times, other post lots. Some have been removed as the players get older and other still exist.

I thought it would be nice to start sharing them on our website and through our blog, so here are a couple of the newer ones ...

If you have other channels that you would like us to share please let me know and I will try and add them to our blog. Finally here is a video from one of our original players and now commentator for many Pokemon tournaments ...

The new shop

I have been asked to do a quick video for one of our major suppliers to show what the new shop looks like. So having sent it off today I thought I might share it with you in case some of you have not been able to pop in for a look around...
