Coming Soon...

A mind-shattering journey into the world of HP Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos warped into the shape of a Love Letter experience.
You’re not trying to gain affection from the Princess. You are trying to eliminate your rivals for power as you seek to understand the cosmic horror that lurks just beyond what we foolishly call “reality”.
In each round only one player will prevail. Use deduction and luck to eliminate other players or watch as their own madness consumes them.
Will you accept madness as the price that must be paid for Knowledge Man Was Not Meant to Know? Or will you attempt to hold the shreds of your sanity together in the face of eldritch nightmares attempting to enter and destroy our world?

Rainbow Stairwell

On Friday 28th July we will be running a 'Rainbow Stairwell' Magic the Gathering Constructed tournament.

Many of you will not be aware of what this is, so I have decided to clarify the deck construction rules.

In the Rainbow Stairwell format, players make a 60 card deck utilizing six cards from each of the five colours of magic (blue, black, green, red and white) plus six colourless spells. (For these colourless spells they may be identified by either the {1} generic mana symbol or the new {C} colourless symbol).

These six cards must have a converted mana cost ranging from one to six, with each card taking up one of six slots.

In regards to land you may have 4 of each type of basic land (including 4 of the new wastes)

If more clarity is needed or if you have any questions please contact me.

Vanguard Promo Cards

At last some good news for Cardfight Vanguard players, we finally have some new (well newish) promo cards. We have received our promos for June. This means that we can again start giving out cards to all participants plus special 'CONGRATULATIONS' ones for the winners each week.

Heroclix Battle Royale

The HeroClix Battle Royale Format is a special type of draft tournament designed for quick play. A typical Battle Royale takes place with 4 players, each with one sealed booster.

The players draft their potential forces as a normal draft, selecting one figure from their pack and passing the remaining figures to the player on their left, continuing until each player has five figures.

There are no restrictions on force construction and each player uses all of the game elements they draft, unless specified ahead of time. Each player is responsible for verifying the other players’ teams are legal.
Standard Battle Royale Maps are 2’x2’ with each player starting in a corner. This is a free-for-all event in which each player is opposing to each other player. Play continues until an action resolves in which all players but one no longer control any characters, or until time has expired. The player with the most KO points total is the winner.
At the conclusion of the game, players will return the figures they used for the event to the center of the map to create a prize pool to which additional prizes may be added. Players will snake draft and select their prizes with the winning player choosing first.

Hour of Devastation - Eternalize

With the prerelease events happening this weekend, lets have a quick look at Eternalize..

Mummies were an accepted part of everyday life in the city of Naktamun. The last set's embalm ability gave your creatures a second life, as it were. The new ability eternalize is similar. Creatures with eternalize can be reborn as Zombies. But we're not talking about simple mindless servants this time around. These are Bolas's Eternals: a lethal undead fighting force that has transcended their mortal capabilities.

Like embalm, eternalize is an activated ability you can activate if the creature card with eternalize is in your graveyard. To do this, pay the eternalize cost and exile the card with eternalize from your graveyard. You can do this any time you could cast a sorcery, which means during your main phase when nothing else is happening. Just like with embalm, the eternalize ability isn't casting a spell. Things that counter spells won't work against eternalize.

When the ability resolves, you create a token copy of the card. As you'd expect, the process of becoming a champion of a millennia-old, power-obsessed, thoroughly evil Dragon Planeswalker causes some rather pleasant changes. The Eternals are very much undead, so they'll be Zombies in addition to whatever creature types it used to have. They're focused on serving Nicol Bolas and him alone, so they'll be black instead of their former colors. They'll also lose their mana costs, just like creatures with embalm did.

Here's the best part: the token will be 4/4 instead of its printed (and smaller) power and toughness. Many creatures with eternalize have abilities that get better because of their increased power. Even if your opponent manages to deal with your eternalize creature once, it'll be much worse for them the second time around.

Remember those sweet printed tokens that were made to highlight the new Zombie look of embalmed creatures? If you're thinking they should do that for eternalize, I have great news: They did. Each creature with eternalize has a corresponding token.

These tokens are optional play accessories. If you don't have the right token or if you just don't want to use them, you don't have to. But if you prefer your victory to be decorated with the lazotep-coated instruments of your ascendance, you have the opportunity.

Oligarchy Update.

A while back we held our first Oligarchy event which was sealed and then we followed that up with a constructed event at a Gambit Sunday. During that event there were some great games and Will has been looking at the results which he posted on FB...

"After today's Oligarchy games, we discussed developing some future events aiming to encourage play as well as developing the narrative / storyline. I recorded today's results and it was clear that the dominant factions were Crime and Illuminati, with Government and Media showing poorly (as much due to my poor deck building as anything else) no Religious faction played at all, and the other three in the middle.
The objective of future events is to develop the rich storyline potential of the year 2080 through the results of pre-constructed tournaments which themselves have faction specific goals based on previous tournaments. Faction and Player ranking / tables will run in parallel.
The ideas I have for the mechanics of the tournaments at the moment are below, and we can add flavour (storyline) if we can agree these.
• Games are one-offs not best of three - aim for all players to play each other (possible up to 7) but swiss if 8 or more.
• Try to get three or four more mini-tournaments during the year (may be able to run something at Conquest?)
• Players earn Player Rank Points by entering a mini-tournament (+1), winning the mini tournament (+2), or coming second (+1) so first gets 3, 2nd gets 2, everyone else gets 1.
• Each player plays with a Dominant Faction deck. Dominant Faction deck must have minimum 50% of non-IP/AP in one faction (the Dominant Faction). The Dominant Faction of each players deck is revealed at start of tournament
• Factions earn Faction Rank Points for each win
Initial Faction Specific goals are based on today’s results:
• Strong: Crime / Illuminati
• Weak: Government / Media
• In the middle: Military / Corporate / Eco
• No show: Religious
As Government and Media showed poorly and Crime / Illuminati scored well the goals are designed to promote the battle between these factions (the former targeting the latter) by offering the opportunity to earn extra Player Points. Military / Corporate / Eco will earn the Player no additional points but will have a bonus available each round. Religion, having not shown up for the fight, have a bonus and a drawback.
For the next tournament Faction Dominant decks have these goals / benefits:
• Government and Media: Any win against Crime or Illuminati will earn the player +2 Player Ranking Points
• Crime and Illuminati: Any win against Government or Media will earn the player +1 Player Ranking Point
• Eco: starts each game with 1AP and 1IP (not cards, just the IP/AP)
• Military: First Character deployed enters with +1 Power Base
• Corporate: After taking their starting hand (i.e. after deciding not to mulligan, or after mulligan taken) player draws two extra cards (starts with ten cards)
• Religion: Each win (against any deck) will earn the player +1 Player Ranking Points; each loss will earn the player -1 Player Ranking Points
The subsequent set of Faction Specific goals can be based on the reletive performance of each faction and on how the goals / benefits worked (or not)
We could add today’s results to the Player Rack Points table (thanks to all that took part) or not (so new people joining are not disadvantaged)
Any thoughts?"

FNM events in July

There will be four Friday's this month but there will be a change to the rotation of Standard and Modern due to the release of the new MTG set on Friday 14th July. This will mean that there will be 3 Standard and just 1 Modern. The promo card this month is 'Reverse Engineer'

In addition to the main FNM event I will also be testing the idea of a smaller FNM event which will start at 5pm. This will be free to enter with FNM promo cards for first and second place (it will still be sanctioned and count toward KD points). This event will be the best of one game and rounds will last just 30 mins. The proposed event formats are as follows...

7th July .... Pauper
14th July .... Mini Masters Draft
21st July .... Peasant
28th July .... Rainbow Stairwell

For the younger players there will also be casual FNM from 4pm which is not a tournament but every play gets an FNM promo (sometimes older ones) just for playing!
