White Dwarf 501 – Reality Warping Boarding Actions Missions, Board Building Advice, and More

The June issue of White Dwarf is almost with us, which means we’re about to do our monthly flick through the pages to pick out all the best bits. Before that though, here’s a video on what you can expect from White Dwarf as a new reader.

Issue 501 starts with a trip into the Bunker to catch up on what’s been going on. There are two new Scenarios of the Month to try out, plus rules taking the fight to sandblasted deserts in Kill Team.

There are plenty more rules to dig into, with reality rift rules for use in a Boarding Action that let you shoot around corners in six exciting missions that are more mind-bending puzzles than out-and-out firefights.

For those of you braving the Gnarlwood, there are new rules for fighting in the deepest depths, where the trees are hungrier than ever, and lore, quests, and traits for the Pyregheists and Ydrilan Riverblades.

If lore is what you’re into, there’s the final part of the chronologically compromised Tempus Purgatus story, an update on how the forces of Chaos are getting on over in the Nephilim Anomaly, and for fans of the Mortal Realms, there’s a short story featuring two brothers attempting to escape the vile Skaven.

Speaking of those nasty ratmen, Phil from the Warhammer Studio takes us on a reflective journey through the Era of the Beast, and a new instalment of Arks Arcana sets up the new stage of play in Warhammer Age of Sigmar, and explores the aftermath of the Vermindoom.

In last month’s milestone issue, the massive Invasion of Samarkis Battle Report was spread across three simultaneous battlefields. It was a huge undertaking, and in this issue, the pair behind the breathtaking Makhis Cove board reveal how they made this show-stopping battlefield – which you can now play on at Warhammer World!

There is a generous helping of gorgeous miniatures, including an Ironjawz showcase, alongside hobby and tactics tutorials, and the first chapter of a new Horus Heresy campaign – the Raid on Ollanz-Mu.

Plus if you get your copy from us here at KD Games you will only pay £6

White Dwarf 499 – Necrons Run the Show in an Issue Packed with Miniature Showcases

April’s issue of White Dwarf will be available soon, which means it’s time to flick through the pages of the best Warhammer magazine around and pick out some favourite bits!

The Bunker has more information about the Bastior Crusade campaign, Basic Training on how to make the most of charging in Warhammer Age of Sigmar, a second Hobby Hangout on working out schemes for armies, and a look at the Redditch Tabletop Gamers in Bunker of the Month.

This is all alongside new scenarios for Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar, plus a Warcry battle plan generator for use alongside Scales of Talaxis terrain.

This month’s issue features a heavy dose of Necron-flavoured* content, including a helping of fiction and lore alongside a Galactic War Host gallery featuring nothing but cruel, ambitious dynasties – what a great month for our mighty metal masters.

There’s plenty more Warhammer 40,000 content, with the final instalment of Tale of Four Warlords featuring some exquisite new miniatures from the combatants. If you need even more photos of gorgeous miniatures on terrain, then we’ve got you covered with a showcase of Golden Demon winner Martin Waller’s exquisite Deathwatch force.

Over in the Mortal Realms, there’s plenty to talk about with a new Ark Arcana all about the Cults Unberogen, and Bladeborn Warcry rules for warbands from the Deathgorge season of Warhammer Underworlds – including Daggok’s Stab-ladz, Zondara’s Gravebreakers, and even the new Wintermaw warbands. Jimbo from the Warhammer Studio also highlights how his favourite warscroll rules exemplify the narrative of Warhammer Age of Sigmar.

On top of all of that, there are new rules for Boarding Actions that deal with temporal abnormalities, the final part of the Studio’s Necromunda campaign, and three short stories, including the ultimate instalment of John Flindall’s Tome Keepers serial.

Issue 500 is right around the corner, and we can promise it’s going to be an absolute banger.

Take Vanguard Space Marines on Combat Patrol in White Dwarf Issue 496

The first issue of White Dwarf in 2024 is on its way, and it’s bursting with awesome content for all sorts of Warhammer fans. The Slidecrown Sundering campaign reaches its epic finale, and the Bunker has new missions for Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar to bolster your collection of battleplans.

This month’s headline is the debut of a whole new Combat Patrol, with full rules for using a balanced team of Space Marine stealth specialists led by a capable Phobos Lieutenant. This force is designed to be usable alongside all other Combat Patrols, and experienced Space Marine players may already have all of the miniatures they need to use it.

If you’re not already knee-deep in your Chapter’s vanguard, all it takes to build Strike Team Solarien is a Phobos Librarian and the contents of the Vanguard Task Force box – which also gets you extra miniatures on top of the ones you need

This Combat Patrol has a much greater focus on long-ranged combat than the regular Strike Force Octavius, with plenty of movement tricks to get them scooting around the battlefield and capturing objectives. Without the benefit of Terminator armour, they’re much more vulnerable to enemy attacks, and must make the most of their stealth abilities to avoid a sticky end.

White Dwarf is the first place you’ll be able to get hold of the rules for Strike Team Solarien, so be sure to pick up a copy. They’ll be following in the app and on WarCom in a few months time.

That’s not all from the 41st Millennium in this issue either, as Index Xenos takes a deep look at the Necrons’ mighty Sautekh Dynasty – headed up by the infamous Imotekh the Stormlord. Imotekh is a major player in the upcoming Crusade: Pariah Nexus book, and it pays to know what makes the metal monarch tick – whether you’re serving his rule or resisting it

Tale of Four Warlords returns to the Mortal Realms as our commanders add new allies to their forces – by building and painting an entire Vanguard box each! A new Warlord even joins the fray halfway through, so the Stormcast Eternals have a lot of catching up to do.

Elsewhere, there’s heaps of hobby and gameplay content for you to enjoy, including shiny new rules for the recent crop of Cities of Sigmar characters to use in Warhammer Quest: Cursed City. Taking a Freeguild Marshal and the members of his Command Corps into Ulfenkarn is sure to put a spanner in Radukar’s plans, and give you all kinds of new scenarios to try out.

Pick up your copy this Saturday, and save a few pennies as we are now selling it for just £6

Gambit Sunday Review

Last Sunday was Gambit Sunday at KD Games. A it was a great day enjoyed by both experienced club veterans and new players alike.

After setting up the initial scenery there was a pause for a brief coffee and chat.

Following that battle commenced with some Kill Team with Space Marines taking on the Sisters of Battle and a small 500 point game of Age of Sigmar.

We also had a few people arrive that were keen to learn how to play Pokemon TCG which we were happy to teach.

There was a good amount of Bloodbowl being played as well as the alternative versions of dungeon bowl and gutter bowl.

The afternoon was broken up with a simple game of Bag of Dungeon with is made by Gunpowder Studios who will hopefully be with us for the Conquest Sunday at the end of August.

Then it was back to Kill Team and Age of Sigmar for most of the afternoon's remaining battles.

The day finished with a game if Warcry played on the very first scenery we had set up in the morning!

It was a good say with a great atmosphere.  In total there were 14 players with a great mix of young players and experienced players. Good to see several new faces as well. I look forward to the mid month one in Sunday. A full list of Sunday dates can be found on our website.

The Heart of Ghur

Warcry is the fast-paced skirmish game set within the Mortal Realms of Warhammer Age of Sigmar, which sees small warbands fighting it out for glory, loot, or a simple thirst for blood.

The newest release for this great game system will be The Heart of Ghur box set which is released on August 13th.

Now it’s time to lift the lid and get a good look at what’s inside – whether you’re an experienced Warcry campaigner or brand new to the game, you’ll want to see the treasures contained within.

The Warbands

They may carry hammers and other tools of the forge, but the Horns of Hashut prefer destruction to creation. They harness the power of fire and leave nothing but charred corpses in their wake, just as Hashut demands.

Facing off against the Horns of Hashut are the Rotmire Creed, twisted followers of Lord Leech. These hardy warriors seek to transform the verdant forest into a diseased swampland – a perfect place for their deity to call home.

The Scenery

The new season of Warcry takes the action away from the Varanspire and into the living forests of Ghur, better known as the Gnarlwood. You can create stunning multi-height battlegrounds with rope bridges connecting the watchtower, gnarloaks, and rib platform.

The Core Book

Heart of Ghur contains the complete rulebook for the new edition of Warcry. Known as the Core Book, it sets the scene for your battles in the Realm of Beasts and includes the rules for Open Play, Matched Play, and Narrative Play games.

The Warband Tome

Rot and Ruin contains the rules and background for the two new Warcry warbands, terrain rules for fighting in the Gnarlwood, and faction-specific quests for the Horns of Hashut and the Rotmire Creed.

This book is basically like a mini battletome for the two new warbands, containing everything you need to get them on the tabletop. There’s a load of other great stuff in there too including two campaign arcs, and tables for naming your fighters and deciding the background of your warband’s leader.

The Accessories

The box comes with masses of accessories, which are crucial for playing Warcry, including a game board, battleplan cards, tokens, dice, a range ruler, fighter cards, and ability cards.
