Altered - What is a prerelease?

A prerelease is a sealed deck format event that is run before the new set is released, allowing players to enjoy a casual format and chance to get hold of cards from the set a week early.

Sealed Deck is a format, where you open a set number of booster packs and constitute your card-pool with the cards you open. Choose among different factions and heroes the ones that allow you to build the most synergistic deck while also including your most powerful and versatile cards.

Sealed Deck is a fun and refreshing way to experience Altered and one of the best means to discover and start collecting a new set.

As a limited format, Sealed Deck doesn’t require you to build a deck beforehand.

Setting up an Altered Sealed Deck
  • Sealed Decks are played 1v1 but can welcome any number of players
  • Each player receives 7 Altered booster packs. Players must build decks using only the cards within those packs.
  • Sealed decks must be at least 30 cards following the deck building instructions below.
  • After deck construction, players face one-another in a series of swiss rounds.
Sealed Deck Construction Rules

Players build decks out of their pools of cards. Each player must construct a deck of at least 30 cards, which may include a Hero card.

Limited decks in Altered must adopt the following guidelines:
  • A deck must contain a minimum of 30 cards.Token cards do not count towards the deck minimum. If you have token cards to go with your deck, they start outside of your deck.
  • You may play cards from up to three different factions.
  • A deck can include a Hero card. If so, it counts toward the 30 cards minimum.Your Hero must be from one of the factions in your deck.
  • You may choose to not play a Hero card.
  • There are no restrictions on the number of cards with the same name that you can play in your deck.
  • There are no restrictions on the number or rare or unique cards you can play in your deck.
  • You may use Mana Convergence cards if you need some extra cards to get to a total of 30 cards.

What are Mana Convergence cards?

Mana Convergence cards are cards that appear in the token slot of some booster packs. If you’re unable to play 30 cards in your deck (because you have less than 30 cards among the three factions you’ve chosen in your pool of drafted cards), you’ll need to fill out the rest of the slots with Mana Convergence tokens until you reach at least 30 cards in your deck. Like all token cards, they can be used from anywhere, not just those in the drafted booster.

Mana Convergence tokens act as any card in your deck, but:They can not be played in any other zone than the mana zone by their owner. They cannot be played in an Expedition, Reserve or Landmark area
They can be affected by card effects such as “Discard a card to do X” or “Your opponent discards a card” and are counted as a card for any other purpose like “I gain X boosts based on the number of cards in your discard pile”.

Sealed Deck Tournament Structure Recommendations (although this may be affected by the number of players)
  • Structure: Best-of-one
  • Rounds: 4
  • Deck Construction Time: 30m
  • Round Time: 30m
  • Number of Players: Any number
Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to play a Hero card in my deck?

You are not required to play a Hero card as a part of your deck in limited formats like Booster Draft, but it is often better to play one in one of the factions of your deck than not play one at all.

When should I scan my cards and add them to my digital collection?

During deck building, any time before you play against your first opponent, unless stated differently by the event organizer.

Can I change my deck between games?

Players may freely change their deck using their pool of opened cards between games while playing limited formats.

How quickly time flies

It's hard to believe but a year ago today we opened our new shop at 32a High Street. It was a big move for KD Games and felt like a big risk. We had moved many times before but going from a location that was street level with an obvious shop entrance to one that was upstairs and a little difficult to find was certainly slightly daunting.

For those of you that have braved the stairs and joined us either as a customer or played at one of our events (hopefully both), I would really like to THANK YOU for making this move such a positive experience.

Your continuous support to our business and local gaming community is something that means a lot to us.

Toy Battle

On land, on sea, in clouds, and even in space, battles are breaking out between toys. Your troops need your tactical talent to lead them to victory. Your mission? Be the first to reach the enemy headquarters or control more territories than your opponent.

On your turn in Toy Battle, you either draw two toy troops or place a troop on the board and apply its effect. When you place a troop, you can place it on an empty base, a base that you control, a base that the enemy controls with a lower-valued troop than the one you're placing, or the enemy's headquarters; however, in all cases you must place on a location that has a continuous path to your own headquarters through bases that you occupy, that is, that have your troop on top. If you occupy bases that form a continuous path around a region, you claim the medals within this region. (You don't lose these medals if the enemy later occupies one of these bases.)

The game ends as soon as you occupy your opponent's headquarters or win the required number of medals based on the current game board. If a player cannot draw or place a troop, the game ends, and whoever has the most medals wins.

TNT - Dreadball League

Following on from our Halo: Flashpoint and Kill Team Leagues is the 2025 Dread Ball League.

This is a great game and although not currently in production there are plenty of teams that are available for you to play. (You don't need your own team as you can use one of the spare ones we have)

This League will feature one multiplayer match every week. This will mean that regardless of the amount of players present there will always be a game. The multi player format can accommodate up to 6 teams.

Once again this will be a free event, and will be played on Tuesday Nights from 7pm (Although, players can arrange a game on other days as long as it is at the shop and with players that have not already played for that week.)

The league will be the "Galactic Tour Magnetar Circuit" and each week the teams will visit a different world in the circuit. There are 4 worlds in total and we will visit these twice during the league.

The venues are Cavlax VI, New Atlantea, Ovostar-2 and Memphis Max. (I will post more details on these venues each week.)

Teams will start with 1000mc and will be able to employ the additional support staff of Mechanic, Hydrator or Fixer. Teams will advance as they play getting new skills and injuries as the league progresses.

At the end of 8 weeks we will have our 2025 League Champions, will it be your team?
