New MTG Challenger Decks

Releasing this April ...


Challenger Decks are your on-ramp to Standard. These four individual 75-card decks are geared toward Standard play for the Friday Night Magic player, and forged out of some of the most powerful strategies in Standard.

Each Challenger Deck comes with a complete 60-card main deck and a 15-card sideboard, and is intended to be playable and competitive at a local level right out of the box. All cards will have been previously printed in Standard and are Standard-legal. Additionally, each Challenger Deck will contain the following:
  • A box capable of holding 75 sleeved cards.
  • A Spindown life counter
  • A quick reference guide
Challenger Decks will be available April 6, 2018.

Pokemon Prerelease

Following a very uncertain couple of weeks the stock for this weekends Pokemon Prerelease finally arrived in store today...


There will be events on both Saturday and Sunday and they will start at 11am with with registration closing at 11:30am. Entry will cost £23.

Pokémon TCG: Sun & Moon—Ultra Prism Prerelease tournaments allow players to receive and play with cards from the upcoming Sun & Moon—Ultra Prism expansion up to two weeks before the expansion's official release date!

Each participant receives a Prerelease box containing a 23-card Evolution pack (including 1 of 4 exclusive foil promo cards) and four 10-card booster packs. The Evolution pack provides a solid foundation which, along with the booster packs and Energy provided by KD Games, is used to construct a 40-card deck.

What are the prizes?

At the end of the event every player will receive an additional 2 boosters with the winner of each age group getting a further one!

Bring your Player ID card, if you have one. If you don't have a Player ID, one will be given to you at the event.

Make sure you arrive on time. If you are late for registration, you may not be able to play in the event!

Campaign Boxes

Coming soon for Dice Masters are the new Campaign Boxes...


A Campaign Box has 48 different character cards that could be used to build hundreds of different teams for head-to-head thematic play right out of the box. Layer in 10 Basic Action Cards and the replayability seems limitless. Adding in a Team Pack or two will let players customize their teams even further, or replace one of the two entirely. A single Campaign Box has storage to fit over 300 dice and their matching cards; that’s more than 10 Team Packs you can fit above-and-beyond the Campaign Box’s original contents.

There are plenty of characters that are powerful enough to be included on tournament teams without ever being used at 4 copies of that die. In some previous non-blind releases, cards had a maximum number of dice based on the configuration. This potentially held back some cards from seeing their maximum potential in tournament play even if it had no effect on others. Cards in Campaign Boxes are going to have the Max dice based on the game play, just like cards from boosters would.

Star Wars Destiny Draft


Fantasy Flight Games is proud to present the Star Wars: Destiny Rivals Draft Set, the backbone of a brand-new way to play Star Wars: Destiny.

Star Wars: Destiny Rivals introduces a new way to play Destiny in the form of draft and sealed events. Playing in a draft requires each player to have one Rivals Draft Set and six booster packs of any set.

A Star Wars: Destiny Draft event will feature every player opening three booster packs, selecting one card to take from the pack and passing the remaining cards to their left for that player to select a card and pass. Once these cards have all been selected, the next three packs are opened and players pass right. When all is said-and-done, players will have thirty cards from the booster packs as well as the twenty cards featured in their Rivals Draft Set to construct a twenty-to-thirty card deck. A player can add as many copies of a card to a deck as they want, and hero, villain, and neutral cards can all be intermixed in the same deck in the draft format.

The Rivals Draft Set includes twenty cards that are meant to supplement the cards you draft from Booster Packs. With characters, supports, upgrades, and events of every color, the Rivals Draft set gives you all the tools you need to construct a successful deck. Every card featured in Rivals is legal for constructed play in Destiny, and makes for a great way to expand your collection.

Dice Masters Draft

This Sunday at Gambit we will be running a D&D Dice Masters Draft.

ABOUT THE DRAFT

We will need to get two or more players (max of eight). Each player gets one draft pack, their basic action dice and sidekicks available from any Dice Masters starter and then we are ready for a whole new draft experience! 

Each Draft Pack includes:
2 Basic Actions
12 characters
24 dice

Enough to field a full Dice Masters team of 8 characters with 2 or more dice each.

Each player takes the action cards that come in their packs, picks one character to keep and the 2 associated dice* and passes the pack. That’s it, super quick, super fun!

MTG Prerelease

This weekend it is the prerelease event for the new MTG set Rivals of Ixalan.


This time we will have three events, MIDNIGHT, SATURDAY and SUNDAY. All of these events will cost £22 and can be booked in store or via EVENTBRITE.

Prereleases are your first chance to crack open packs and play with the newest cards in Magic. The fun takes place at our store in Shoreham and the Sea Scout Hut on Adur Rec.

WHAT HAPPENS AT A PRERELEASE?
You'll experience the thrill of opening new cards for the first time, at an event filled with other Magic players who enjoy the game just as much as you. Everything you'll need to play should be provided as part of your entry fee - you simply show up and play!

You'll build a 40-card minimum deck using the contents of a themed Prerelease pack. This play format is called "Sealed Deck."

After you build your deck, you'll be randomly paired with another player for a best-two-of-three match. Each round, you'll report who won and be paired up with a new player. If you do well, you may get additional booster packs as prizes!

THERE ARE THREE events currently scheduled for this, please ensure you select the correct one. (Addition events maybe added later in the week)

PLEASE NOTE that the Sunday event will be held at the 3rd Sea Scout Hut on the Adur Recreation Ground and the other two events will be in the shop in Tarmount Lane.

This Saturday it is Open House from 1pm until 4pm.

What Is Magic Open House?

This event is for people who have never played Magic before, need a Magic refresher, or want to introduce a friend to the game! 

Show up, get a Welcome Deck, and play Magic against other new players and meet some of the local gaming community.

Will there be a Standard Event?

Yes there will be a constructed standard event for anyone that is interested.

Ascend

Rivals of Ixalan features one new keyword: ascend. Ascend unlocks different bonuses on different cards if you have the city's blessing. That's a fairly unusual description for a Magic ability, but then again, ascend is a fairly unusual ability. 

What is the city's blessing? How do you get it? Let's have a look at a couple of new cards.


The city's blessing is a designation that the ascend ability can give you. The city's blessing isn't a permanent or emblem, and nothing can destroy it or otherwise interact with it. It's just something true about you. It doesn't do anything by itself, but different cards will get bonuses if you have the city's blessing. For example, Dusk Charger gets a nice boost to 5/5 if you have the city's blessing.

If ascend is on a permanent, it constantly checks to see whether you control ten or more permanents. 

The moment you do, you get the city's blessing. This doesn't use the stack and can't be responded to. It just happens. But the permanent with ascend has to be under your control to check. If you control ten permanents, then go back to eight, and then you cast Dusk Charger as your ninth permanent, you won't get the city's blessing just yet. Ascend always looks at the current game state, not the past.

Ascend also appears on instants and sorceries, such as Secrets of the Golden City.

The ascend ability on an instant or sorcery works slightly differently. In this case, the ascend ability checks if you control ten or more permanents only once, as the spell resolves. Spells with ascend also do other things. Those instructions appear after the ascend ability, so they'll happen after the check. 

This means Secrets of the Golden City can give you the city's blessing before determining whether you'll draw two or three cards.

When checking if you control ten or more permanents, count every permanent you control, including lands and tokens. Don't forget Auras and Equipment, even if they are somehow attached to permanents you don't control. Don't count counters, though, as they aren't permanents.

Once you have the city's blessing, you keep it for the rest of the game. Nothing can take it away from you. If you lose all your permanents after gaining the city's blessing, well that sucks and you're probably going to lose, but you'll keep the city's blessing! For example, if you control eight permanents but have previously received the city's blessing, you'll draw three cards as Secrets of the Golden City resolves.

Multiple players can all have the city's blessing at the same time. With all the warring factions on Ixalan, the Immortal Sun hops around like a hot potato, but possessing it even briefly leaves you forever changed. Gaining the city's blessing doesn't impact any other player's current blessing status.

Although the city's blessing isn't a permanent, token, or emblem, there is a a printed card to use as a reminder.
